Helix is built to keep what you do on your Mac. There's no account and no ads, and the app has no analytics.
In the app
- Clipboard history, notes, to-dos, saved links, calculator history and Ask AI conversations are stored only on your Mac, in Helix's folder in your user Library. They aren't encrypted separately, so they're as private as your Mac account; FileVault encrypts them with the rest of your disk.
- Copies that password managers mark as private are never saved to clipboard history. You can also list apps whose copies Helix should ignore.
- Helix asks for Accessibility access so it can paste for you, move windows and send media keys. It doesn't record what you type.
- Reminders are read and saved through Apple Reminders, which syncs them with iCloud as you've set it up.
What leaves your Mac
- Ask AI. Your questions, and any images you add, are sent with your own API key to the company whose model you picked: Anthropic for Claude, OpenAI for GPT. When you switch models in a conversation, the conversation so far goes to the new model's company too. That company's privacy policy covers the data. Your keys are kept in your Mac's Keychain.
- Your licence. When you activate Helix, your licence key and your Mac's name are sent to Dodo Payments, so the key works on one Mac. After that, Helix checks the key with Dodo Payments about once a day.
- Updates. About once a day, Helix asks tryhelix.app whether there's a new version. Like any web request, it carries your IP address and the app's version, and nothing else.
- Currency in Units. Helix downloads the day's exchange rates from the Frankfurter service. None of your data goes with the request.
Nothing else is sent anywhere.
Buying Helix
Purchases are handled by Dodo Payments, the reseller of record. They collect your name, email and payment details under their own privacy policy. We receive your name, email and order details so we can deliver your licence and help with support. We never see your card number.
This website
This site uses Minilytics, analytics we run ourselves on our own Cloudflare account, to see how people find Helix and which visits lead to a purchase. It sets two cookies of its own: a random visitor ID that lasts a year, and a session ID that lasts 30 minutes. It records the pages you view, the site or link that sent you, your country and city, and your browser and device type. It doesn't store your IP address, and nothing is shared with anyone else. When you buy, the visitor ID goes to Dodo Payments with your order, so we can tell which page led to the sale.
The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard request data, such as IP addresses, to deliver and protect it.
